Their online search portal, yellowpages.com for local businesses is being used less as well.

For the percentage of people left using the Yellow Pages you must grab their attention in a beneficial way or you simply don't stand out from your competitors.
Your ads must offer service. An inducement for calling or coming by now. If your ad/s are not benefit driven then you're grossly spending your advertising dollars.
You're not getting the response rate you could. You wouldn't send a salesperson to knock on doors to say this is what my employer offers and this is how long he been in business.
Most ads simply scream indirectly to the consumer- spend your money with me instead of the other guy.
We carry this, this and this. Our number is this. We are located at this address. Been in business since 1972.
Not much service oriented information in that to someone who could careless about you.
